INSTITUTE OF MARINE STUDIES-INDIA (IMS-INDIA)

AMCA Institute of Marine Studies will while help the present and future young generation to prepare themselves to become educated in such a manner so that any negative impact could well be assessed in anticipation and manage the same by them in an integrated way of planned natural resource management through the understanding of ecological and economic developments.

Dr. Ghosh and Dr. I. Nageswara Rao (our new member and U. G. C. Scientist in the Dept. of Marine Chemistry, Andhra University, Visakhapatnam) shake their hands.

Through this type of work IMS will enable young generation by proper and integrated management of climate change predictions and scenarios to be used routinely in all large-scale, medium-to-long-term social, economic and environmental development strategies, which will subsequently enable any coastal States/countries to anticipate and benefit from climatic induced environmental changes, while avoiding the negative aspects of climate change.

Students and researchers using sophisticated climate prediction models can
i) draw data from real-time in-situ offshore and coastal monitoring stations;
ii) prepare reliable local climate impact predictions, including warnings on storm surges, coastal inundation and flooding, and species movements and migrations.

As a result of appropriately learned and trained in this special area of integrate management of science, technology and economics, it will create wealth by developing research and technical support capabilities in the third-level sector, by providing a range of R&D and also capital support measures for the developers of marine and coastal resources through devices, systems and procedures and also by establishment of natural coastal/marine test sites for any prototype trials - the demand of which is increasing day by day to meet the legal compliance requirement in various countries having coastal areas.

Very shortly AMCA-IMS will start the following educational courses. After successful completion, students will find their jobs in various countries worldwide in the sectors of education, research, and other sector of business, profession and social activities -- where the climate change and its relating-activity knowledge is/are directly and/or indirectly required, (For e.g., in case of tourism related activities/industries, many people are already required having considerable knowledge in climate change relating tourism activities. This number with days and increased population situation would have been requiring without any obstruction as tourism-related industry covers one of the largest share of financial activities nowadays). AMCA already had received appreciation from various leading university on its tourism & Ecotourism Management Syllabus, following which the courses would be taught.

The names of the courses are in the following :
1. Certificate Course in Tourism & Ecotourism Management;
2. Post Graduate Diploma Course in Tourism & Ecotourism Management;
3. Certificate Course in Coastal Resource Management;
4. Post Graduate Diploma Course in Coastal Resource Management;
5. Post Graduate Diploma Course in Resource Management in Climate Change.
6. Post Graduate Diploma Course in Environmental Law
